Seating Chart Builder

Build a seating chart from blank, your way. Drop table presets onto the canvas, drag them into the layout your venue actually has, click any seat to assign a guest. Export the finished chart as a PDF for the venue or the day-of coordinator.

Build for the venue you actually have

Most online seating chart builders treat the venue as a generic rectangle. That fails the moment your real space includes a pillar, a dance floor with fixed dimensions, a fireplace nobody can sit too close to, or a tent pole that splits the room. Seat Chart App's builder assumes the venue is the thing, and the chart bends around it. Move tables individually, rotate banquets to follow a wall, leave gaps for service paths. The chart is for the day-of coordinator — not for an abstract floor plan.

Practical tips: leave at least four feet between table edges for a chair-back walking path. Don't seat anyone with their back directly to the bar entrance. Reserve a seat near the kitchen door for the day-of coordinator if you're hosting more than fifty guests. The builder won't enforce any of this — these are your calls — but the drag-drop is fast enough that you can try three layouts before committing.

What gets built

  • A canvas chart that prints cleanly on US Letter and A4. The PDF shows the chart at the top and a per-table guest list underneath, both updated automatically when you change anything in the tool.
  • A browser-saved copy of the layout, so refreshing the page doesn't lose work. Pro adds cloud save across devices.
  • A guest list grouped by table — the version the catering team wants for plating, the version the day-of coordinator wants for welcoming guests, the version you want for your binder.

Frequently asked questions

What is a seating chart builder?
A tool that lets you build a visual seating chart by dropping tables onto a canvas, assigning guests to seats, and exporting the chart as a printable file. Seat Chart App's builder uses real table objects — round, banquet, classroom, theater — so the chairs stay attached when you move the table.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The builder runs entirely in your browser. Open the page, click a table preset, drag it where you want it. Your chart auto-saves to local storage so you can come back later without losing work.
Can multiple people work on the same chart?
Single-user editing today. Real-time collaboration is on the roadmap and will ship with Seat Chart App Pro. If you need to share a chart for review now, export the PDF and send it — most planners review on paper anyway.
Does the builder handle complex venues?
Yes. Move and rotate any table to fit irregular venues — L-shaped ballrooms, tents with fixed poles, restaurants with built-in booths. The canvas is generous enough for most events; for a 500-seat banquet you'll want a desktop browser, though the builder still works on mobile.
How is the builder different from the generator?
The generator and the builder are the same tool — different doors into it. The generator page emphasizes one-click templates; the builder page emphasizes hands-on construction from blank. Pick whichever framing fits how you think about your event.
